According to the ECCO guidelines, pneumococcal vaccination is recommended for all patients with IBD. Last year, the Superior Health Council of Belgium updated its recommendations regarding pneumococcal vaccination.
Primary vaccination of previously unvaccinated IBD patients should be performed with PCV20 (Prevenar 20) or PCV21. PCV21 is preferred for individuals ≥85 years of age; however, PCV20 is recommended as an acceptable alternative if PCV21 is unavailable.
